As Paul writes the letter to the Philippians, he is a prisoner in chains. He has lost his freedom. If that wasn’t enough, Paul has people attacking him verbally, “ministers” who are treating him as a rival, and people in the church at Philippi who aren’t getting along. Despite all of this, the central theme of the letter he writes is joy and rejoicing. Paul has made Jesus the sole focus of his life and because of that is experiencing joy and contentment in every circumstance.
